Adnams Cellar and Kitchen Store, and Cafe

We were invited to the lovely little, but not so quiet, seaside town of Southwold by a couple whose parents own a cottage by the church green for a few days of sea air and most importantly food and drink!

A new addition to Southwold since we last visited is the Adnams store and cafe.  The building was designed by Ash Sakula Architects of London.  The front part of the store has a pitched barn-like roof and is incredibly light and airy with intelligent use of full length glazing.  As you move through the front of the building, which houses the store, you move towards the cafe. This part of the building has been kept lower so not to spoil views from the nearby church. You can either sit inside on colourful cafe/garden furniture (I think it is by the French company Fermob) or you can sit in one of the two old Adnams brewery vats which have been used as snug areas of seating.  There is also a outside square, but even with the sun shining, it was on the chilly side to be thinking that was a good idea.

But the BEST thing was the incredible sausage rolls! The ratio of pastry to sausage meat was in favour of the latter and it was huge! It kept us going to dinner time.  Delicious!!
